What scales is the pattern of relating

foundation

If transformation happens through relationship, and relationships are inherently local, bounded, and slow, how does Fabric build collective power – which by definition requires coordination at scale? In other words, how does Agency in relationship build collective power?

The protocol architecture offers an answer: what scales is not the relationship itself but the pattern of relating. When organisations across the network adopt the same consent protocol, they are not in direct relationship with each other – but they are practising the same decision-making discipline, developing the same capacities, and becoming interoperable.

The protocol is the mechanism through which relational transformation scales beyond the dyad.

The challenge will be to not only make the accord layer of a protocol scalable, but also ritual, critique and contemplation – at least some of them must work between strangers, not only between friends. Do we know if this will work? No – This is a wager, not a blueprint.
