The feedback and learning area governs how the network learns from its own experience by surfacing and processing tensions. It is central to Fabric because tension drives development; it provides the input and feedback necessary for distributed protocol stewardship.
The area includes protocols for:
Story harvesting – how experience is shared and sense-made across the network.
Structural review – how operational learning feeds into governance evolution.
Retrospectives – how groups reflect on their own health. Periodically, any group that has adopted governance protocols reviews not just its outputs but its process: Are the agreements still fit for purpose, or have conditions changed? Have new tensions surfaced that require new agreements? Every protocol carries a review date; at review, the group asks whether it still serves its driver, whether the driver itself has changed, and whether critique and contemplation are actually being practised. In other words, the group turns its attention from what we are doing to what our doing is doing to us.
Each protocol requires ritual, critique and contemplation attending to: whether feedback practices are extractive, whose knowledge counts, and whether the network is learning or merely reporting.
As conflict can be understood unprocessed feedback, the feedback and learning area is closely connected to Conflict engagement.
This area is sketched at the principles level; its specific protocols remain to be developed.
