# Conflict engagement

The conflict engagement area governs how Fabric holds conflict – not as failure to be resolved but as [energy and information about system dynamics](/tension-drives-development.md). It is one of the more developed protocol areas with three specific protocols:

- [Conflict-as-information](/conflict-as-information.md)
- [Staged support](/staged-support.md)
- [Boundary-tending](/boundary-tending.md)

Together these protocols create a conflict ecology: from the initial [naming of tension](/naming-experiences-is-how-protocols-learn.md), through escalating support structures, to the most consequential boundary decisions – with each stage attending to root causes and structural conditions, not only interpersonal dynamics.

As conflict can be understood unprocessed feedback, the conflict engagement area is closely connected to [Feedback and learning](/feedback-and-learning.md).
